Mission: Episode 1: Shadows of Diplomacy
Location: Sickbay

Darla's team was practically juggling padds as they traded them back and forth. They'd had a steady stream of crewmen coming in and files were being updated rapidly. Darla took ten seconds behind a screen to catch a breath and smooth her hair before she cleared the screen, and stepped aside for an orderly to reset the biobed.

"Who's next?" she said, stepping back into Sickbay proper.

“Lieutenant Byrne-Solwick.” Zaire said with a smile. “I’m here for my physical.” He grinned. “I hear it’s every crew member's nightmare.”

"I'll try not to take that personally," Darla said, smirking and gesturing to a biobed. "Hop on, lie back, try to relax as the horror show begins." She paused at the name and checked her files, realizing this was Kalina's spouse.

Zaire loves her sense of humor. “I’m kind of addicted to horror movies so let me see your worst, Doc.”

"Oh, let's not set the bar so high so soon," Darla said, flipping open a tricorder. "How about we start with some basic scans, hm?" She patted the biobed, indicating he should alight.

Zaire took a seat. “I’m ready when you are.” He knew half of a doctors job was getting information from their patients.

"So what do you do on board?" Darla said. "I haven't had time to go through the roster yet."

“I’m the chief engineer.” Zaire replied, proud of his position but not in a boastful way.

"Oh, wonderful. One of my best friends is an engineer," Darla said. "You're the ship's CMO then, in the literal sense." She smiled and reset for another scan. "What drew you to engineering?"

“My summer breaks back like on Betazed at my Uncle Artil’s.” Zaire said smiling as he thought back to his childhood. “He gave me a love for taking things apart and putting them back together.” He paused. “It was his idea that I look into Starfleet.”

"I wasn't allowed to arbitrarily take things apart and put them back together. Doing that is kinda frowned upon in the medical field," Darla said, grinning. "I went into Starfleet because of my mother; she was a ship's counselor before she got married and had me." She finished the scans and grabbed a programmable hypospray, loading his injection. "You are due for your monthly conception control injection," she said. "Are you fine with having it now?"

“Actually.” Zaire replied after a moment. “Let me get back to you on that. I want to talk to my wife first.” They had been talking about children.

Darla nodded. Despite his wife asking, she couldn't do anything without his consent. "Not a problem. You can come in any time," she said, giving a reassuring smile. She made some notes on her padd and put it and the hypospray down. "You're fit for duty, Lieutenant. Any questions for me?"

“Not that I can think of.” Zaire smiled at her. “This was not bad at all. No horror show at all. I hope I won’t have to come to see you anytime soon however, I like being healthy.”

"Always preferrable," Darla said, smiling. "Good meeting you, Lieutenant."

She watched him go, made a few more notes, and moved on to finish her day.
