However, Eliana's own career took a hit as she was demoted to assistant chef. Despite this setback, she remained optimistic and made the best of the situation. Eliana was ecstatic when Adrian was offered a first officer position on a starship, his only requirement was he had to attend the XO academy. Adrian was excited she could see it in his eyes. Eliana informed him that while he was going to the academy she was going to take a break from being a chef to spend more time with their families. At first Adrian didn’t seem on board with that decision but once Eliana explained she wanted to spend time with both their families and for them to spend time as a family when he wasn’t in class. Time with family: Eliana was glad for their time back on Earth. She had missed her parents and one of her first day there she had gone shopping with her Mother and Adrian’s, along with his younger sister Olivia. The two families got along well. Eliana had enjoyed their girls day. They had ended it up having dinner at a nice restaurant, staying and talking until the restaurant closed. Eliana and Adrian took Lucas to Tim’s house where they met his wife, Beth as well as their twin boys, Jace and James. Bryan was attending the academy and showed up after a bit and they got the grill going, just as Adrian’s family showed up, his mother and sister bringing food for the cookout. Eliana thought that was one of the best nights they had. All their family together, everyone laughing and having a good time. They played outdoor games and ended the night with a fire and s’mores. She was thankful for Adrian’s decision to attend the academy. It had given them all a chance to spend time together. Lucas had stayed at Tim’s house one weekend while Adrian and Eliana had gone off for a much needed weekend alone. When they came back it was apparent they the cousins had become fast friends . Lucas spent nights at both grandparents, much to the delight of Eliana. She saw what good friends he had become with Olivia as well. Eliana was on a break from being a chef but she couldn’t help but spend a day at Tim’s restaurant, cooking with her Sad and brother just like the old days. The night that Adrian and Bryan passed their academy courses and were officially XO’s, the family had another cookout, Tim and Eliana had made the food and Eliana’s father had made a cake, as well as small cheese cakes. Everyone had a good time and it really showed how close the families had become. The time back home while Adrian went to the academy was something she would cherish forever. Eliana felt refreshed and renewed, ready to face their futures. It was both with a happy and yet a sad time for her when it was their time to leave. She had loved every minute of their time together and hoped there would be another in the future. USS Dallas: 2393 - 2395 Eliana was thrilled to be back as the head chef on a starship. She had enjoyed her time off while Adrian attended the XO Academy, but towards the end, she longed to be back in her kitchen. She wasn’t one to sit idle for very long. From the first day, Eliana knew she and her assistant would become good friends. They worked out a schedule that made them both happy. Eliana would be able to be home when Adrian was. Now that Lucas was seven years old, he attended school while his parents worked. After school, he would come to the kitchens to wait for Eliana. More often that not, he would come up with a dessert she should make for the dinner hour. They would always bring some home to their quarters. She was glad to see that he had made a few friends already. When they left Earth, he had been sad to leave his family behind. Being an only child was hard for him. Eliana couldn’t imagine life without her brothers, another child just didn’t seem to be in the cards for them. Eliana was delighted that Lucas showed an interest in cooking, even though his true passion was joining Starfleet like his father. It seemed like he was born for it, as he had talked about it for as long as she could remember. It warmed her heart that he was growing up with parts of both his parents' personalities. With some new cookbooks in hand, Eliana began experimenting with long-forgotten recipes. While there were some dishes that the crew didn't particularly enjoy, they appreciated the change from the usual fare. It seemed that the previous cook had a fondness for stew, so Eliana made sure not to make it too often. The job as head chef in Dallas was a whole new experience for her. Instead of cooking for a small crew she was feeding twelve hundred crew, it was a challenge to say the least. Eliana liked to think she came in and handled it perfectly but it took some time for her to gain understanding for what she needed to have prepared to feed them all. When the failures happened, Eliana was critical of herself. She hated feeling like she was not meeting the expectations of the command staff. It was Adrian who helped her through the doubts until she had a working plan in motion. His encouragement and support paved the way for her to be successful at preparing meals that satisfied the crew. It also was a new experience to have a kitchen staff, which was required to be able to prepare and serve that many people. Eliana learned a valuable lesson that she couldn’t please everyone, that some of her staff would not like her decisions but she stayed strong and ran a well run kitchen. After dinner, while Lucas did his homework or played computer games, Eliana and Adrian would sit down and talk about their day. When Adrian was away on a mission and returned home, Eliana became his sounding board when he needed to talk and his source of comfort when he just wanted to be held without saying a word. She loved him with all her heart and understood that there were good days and bad days, always doing her best to provide the support he needed. In early October of 2394, Eliana started to feel sick. She was nauseated in the mornings and at first thought it was a flu bug. After a few days, when she had other symptoms, Eliana suspected it was something else. She expressed her concerns to Adrian and they went to see the ship’s medical officer. They discovered that Eliana was pregnant, close to two months. She was shocked as she had begun to believe that Lucas would be an only child. Her eyes met Adrian’s, a wide smile on his face. Their son was almost a teen and here they were, having another baby. Some parents would not be thrilled to have another child, putting so many years between them. Eliana was so happy she cried tears of joy. They opted to not know the gender of their baby ahead of time. Both Eliana and Adrian wanted to be surprised. Eliana hoped for a girl, but she would be just as happy it the baby was a boy. On April 24, 2395, Paislee Madelyn Kellan was born. Their happiness was overflowing. Eliana knew that her husband was a gifted officer, so it came as no surprise when Adrian was promoted and given his own ship at the end of July in 2395. . She couldn't be prouder of him, and as they left the USS Dallas, she looked forward to the new adventure that awaited them. |
