Making friends

Mission: Episode 2: Mine of Taurus
Location: Lunch room

Eliana set two plates down on the table, the lunch rush was over so she took some time to eat lunch with her daughter, Paislee. She smiled as she watched Paislee waving to some of the crew that were finishing there meals.

"I'm starving!" Paislee declared as she sat down, looking at her plate of macaroni and cheese and French fries. She couldn't decide which to eat first.

Eliana had a chicken salad sandwich with a side salad. She really hoped.against all hope Paislee wasn't going to pour ketchup all over her food. Lately, she wanted ketchup on everything.

"Look Mommy!" Paislee said suddenly. She pointed as a woman came in with a young girl. "HI!" Paislee yelled. "Come sit with us!"

"Mommy there's a girl and she's wanting us to sit with her, MIndy said letting go of Rayven's hand and ran over to where they were. "Hi, I'm new here, I'm Mindy,"

Rayven walked over, "I see you met my daughter," I'm Rayven the new science chief."

"Eliana Kellan, the ship's chef." Eliana replied. "As well as the captain's wife." She looked down at the two girls. "This is our daughter, Paislee."

"Hi." Paislee said with a wide smile, her eyes were on Mindy. "I am really happy you are here. Now, we can have fun together!"

"Yippie!!" Mindy exclaimed, "I have a dogge, his name is Wizzer, I'm happy mommy finally got a job on a ship. I wanna be friends too,"

"Please to meet you Eliana," Rayven said taking a seat, "You already met my bundle of energy, Mindy."

"Yes." Eliana said with a smile.

"Are you hungry?" Paislee said to Mindy. "There's lots of mac and cheese in the kitchen and I'll share my fries."

"I'm starving," Mindy said, "I love mac and cheese and fries."

"She keeps life interesting but I wouldn't change anything," Rayven commented.

"I know what you mean." Eliana smiled, watching as the girls went and got more food. "Paislee brings us so much happiness."

"Being a single parent is a challenge but well worth it. On Risa my parents were a big help with her. I'm glad to be back to work. One can only dive so many hours a day," Rayven said smiling as she watched to two girls.

"It looks as if they are becoming fast friends already." Eliana looked as the two little girls were whispering and gigging amongst themselves. Mommy!" Paislee exclaimed. "Mindy wants to see my babies, can I show her later?"

"If it is okay with her mother." Eliana said with a nod. She looked to Rayven. "Paislee has two pet hamsters. It was our compromise to the horse she wanted to bring."

"Please mommy?" Mindy begged. "I never seen hamsters."

"Yes you may go," Rayven said hugging her daughter. "Paislee wanted to bring a horse? That would have been a challenge and her we brought a dog and I thought that would be a challenge."

"It took some convincing." Eliana explained. "But one look at those two hamsters and Paislee quickly changed her mind.

"Mindy asked first for a Duck, but I told her that was not going to happen, I saw a pet shop with puppies and the Beagle stole my heart and Mindy fell in love with it," Rayven replied.

"Dogs have fleas." Paislee said with a frown. "And you gotta pick up their poop."

"Paislee!" Eliana's eyes widened. "Why would you say that!"

"That's what you and Daddy said when I wanted a dog." Paislee declared. 'My babies don't' have either."

"My doggie don't have flea's mommy makes sure of it and picking up poop don't bother me," Mindy said "I love my doggie, my grandparents gived him to me." Mindy said. "Wizzer is a good dog,"

"I can't wait to see him." Paislee said earnestly. "If you are right then I can have a doggie!"

Eliana sighed and looked to Rayven. "She never gives up. This will be a conversation with Adrian."

"That it will be, I don't know how long hamsters live but dogs anywhere from ten to sixteen years. Wizzer is three," Rayven commented. "Let her spend time with Mindy and the dog and see if that is something she'll really want and take care of. I make her take care of him. I give him baths but Mindy feeds him and cleans up after him."

"We are not opposed to a dog." Eliana explained. "Leaving the family and Adrian commanding a ship again, we just felt like it wasn't the right time." She smiled then. "And she really loves her hamsters. It's enough for now."

"Hamsters are cute, my roommate at the academy had two. She called them Pete and Re=Pete. I don't need to tell you why," Rayven giggled. "Our dorm was over run with them in a few months."

"Twiggy and Cheeks are not the same." Paislee declared with a frown. "They have their own names cause they are anique."

"That is unique, Paislee." Eliana corrected her with a grin. Personally, she didn't see the difference except in their coloring, one was all brown and the other was two toned.


"I like those names," Rayven said "My roommates were called Pete and Re=Pete because they were always having babies."

"There will be no babies in the Kellan home." Eliana said as she saw Paislee's eyes light up. "Cheeks and Twiggy are enough for us." She looked to Rayven. "Would you and Mindy like to come for a late lunch in our quarters one day soon? It would give the girls a chance to get to know each other."

Rayven looked at Mindy who was jumping up and down in excitement, Rayven couldn't help but laugh, "I think that's a great idea. Seems our girls have already formed a friendship. So yes we'd love to."

"I will check my schedule." Eliana replied, smiling as she saw Paislee's excitement on her face. "And send you a message."

"That sounds wonderful." Rayven said

"I can't wait, I never seen hamsters before I wanna see Cheeks and Twiggy!" Mindy said excited. "Can I bring Wizzer too?"

"He won't eat my babies will he?" Paislee asked. She didn't know if dogs liked hamsters or not.

"No Wizzer won't eat them," Mindy said "I give him milk bones, rawhide chews and other treats along with his doggie food."

"Okay." Paislee said with a smile. "He can come then."

"It looks like we have their stamp of approval." Eliana said with a smile. "Look for a message from me." She paused. "Is there any allergies I need to know of, foodwise?"

"No food allergies for either of us." Rayven said. "I am looking forward to this, I know Mindy is."

Eliana smiled at her. "I will send you a message when I have a day and time and you can let me know if it works for you two.

"I can't wait," Mindy squealed.

"I think she's ready," Rayven said. "We look forward to it. Just let us know and we;ll be here."
