Mission:
Episode 2: Mine of Taurus
Location: USS Scharnhorst, Arboretum
Tyler was on a stroll in the arboretum, he need a lot of the staff were heading to the lounge but he wasn't feeling like drinking tonight. As he walked in he noticed two familiar people with a small dog with them. He smiled for a moment as he walked over towards Rayven an Mindy. "Mindy, how's the dog settling in?" Tyler asked, engaging with Mindy directly, to open his way into a conversation with the two of them.
"He likes it here, he can run and fetch his ball, wanna see?" Mindy asked as she threw the ball for Wizzer to chase.
Mindy threw the ball a few times and finally the dog brought the last ball back and plopped down at Mindy's feet clearly tired. "He's tired, mommy said that he needs to get tired sometimes."
"What child has more energy than a puppy, tell me it's not so." Tyler suggested, he was teasing her in a playful manner. But it was clear that Mindy and this puppy were a perfect match for each other.
"I don't know who has more energy, her or the dog, Either way they both tire each other out," Rayven spoke up.
"Well I think that's a good thing right, after the ordeal they both have gone through. They could help each other heal." Tyler said, as he turned and then looked to Rayven.
Rayven nodded. "The good thing is she has no idea who Eddie is and never will. My hopes are that I've not put the ship and crew in any danger."
"Don't worry about that, I know you feel guilty. But you're not responsible for his actions. And I have a feeling the captain's not done chasing him down." Tyler pointed out to her, but not telling her that the captain had already asked him to and keep investigating any sightings of Eddie, and report directly back to the captain. Tyler was using all of his intelligent resources, trying to track down that traitorous fool.
"One day he'll get what's coming to him. Right now I just need to focus on my work, my daughter and new friends, presant company included," Rayven said
"I'm glad you guys are settling in well, I've been meaning to check in with you sooner. I didn't expect to go from one emergency to the next. But hey maybe that's life here, on the ship." Tyler suggested to her.
"Duty happens and I've been getting settled and getting used to the officers under me in science and being a mom," Rayven replied. "Why don't you come to my quarters once things settle down and I'll make dinner. I owe you a big thank you for keeping Brisco away from Mindy."
"Replicated or real? Because I really like Eliana's cooking. I'm not a huge fan of the replicator." Tyler's pointed out to her, hoping that she meant real food and not some replicated food. If she was going to suggest it, he was suggested taking their orders to go from the mess hall and just having dinner in their quarters.
"Real, I do know how to cook, The only time I use the replicator is when I'm in a hurry," Rayven said.
"Let's make sure you're never in a hurry then." Tyler said playfully, as he reached down to pet the dog and then look at Mindy again. "I forgot your dog's name, I'm so sorry."
"His name is Wizzer because he wizzes around," Mindy said.
"If only not being in a hurry all the time was possible," Rayven commented, "Normally I do have time to cook. I have a couple of crock pots that I can fix meals in,"
"Mommy cooks good," Mindy said,
"Does she, what is your favorite dish she makes?" Tyler asked, with a warm smile on his face. He was hoping that having Rayven make her favorite plate, will win him points with Rayven and Mindy.
"Mommy makes two that are my favorite, She makes a yummy hamburger that is made from shrimp, with french fries and a yummy noddle dish with a really creamy sauce that tastes like chocolate. But it's not chocolate as it's white," Mindy replied.
"Burger sound like a good idea, I'm not really a seafood guy but hey if you guys want to put them on your own burgers that's cool. Maybe we should convince mom to make that." Tyler suggested to Mindy, hoping to score brownie points.
"You should try it," Rayven suggested. "It's not seafood like you think it is. But I do love regular burgers too."
"Then lets have some burgers." Tyler suggested to Rayven and Mindy.
"Good as I'm hungry. French fries too " Mindy said "And chocolate ice cream too."
"As long as you eat your hamburger, french fries and drink your milk," Rayven told her.
"All those sound nice, can we have chocolate milk?" Tyler asked, with a big cheesy grin on his face.
"Can we mommy?" Mindy asked.
"I think that can be arranged," Rayven replied.
"All this talk has me craving a tall glass of chocolate milk. I am going over to the replicator to get a glass." Tyler said, as he made his way over. To the replicator.
Mindy after seeing her mother nod hurried over to the replicator for a glass of chocolate milk, Only hers was a small one. She also got a dish of vanilla ice cream for Wizzer.
"The dog gets ice cream?" Tyler asked, he was honestly surprised by this. He did not peg Rayven, as a type of mother that would allow a dog to eat ice cream. He was happily surprised though.
"He only gets vanilla as chocolate is toxic to dogs," Rayven replied "He only gets a small amount and it's topped with a milk bone."
Tyler thought it was a little odd that the dog was getting ice cream, but who is he to judge their choices on what to feed their domestic pet. "Your mom brings up a good point, but let's just give him a small scoop okay."
"He only gets a small scoop, mommy that's enough for him and only a treat," Mindy said. "She said milk bones are better for him."
"So who gets the other half of the scoop, do I get to call dibs?" Tyler said with a warm smile on his face. He had a feeling that Mindy would try to call dibs on it.
"I do," Mindy squealed.
"Not do fast Minds, you don't need all that sugar. Tyler can have the other half of the scoop," Rayven said.
Tyler felt bad, but respected Rayven's decision. "So after ice cream, what do you guys want to do?" He was hopeful they would continue this improv date.
"A movie and popcorn," Mindy said anxious, "A funny movie. Mr. Tyler would that be okay? Can we mommy?"
"If Tyler's not too busy," Rayven said.
"Movie and a popcorn does sound nice, what are we going to watch?." Tyler asked, knowing the ship had a huge library of movies in the database.
"Something funny, Mr. Tyler you pick the movie, mommy will make the popcorn and I'll get a blanket so we can all snuggle in it while we watch the movie, Wizzer can lay on my lap." MIndy said.
"That's a lot of responsibility, never picked out a movie for a young child before ." Tyler pointed out to the two of them. "Any suggestions?"
"She likes Home Alone," Rayven suggested. "My favorite it Mrs. Doubtfire.
"Not familiar with the movie?" Tyler suggested to herm he had no idea that Rayven liked 21st century movies from Earth. The irony was, she was a native born Risian. Born on Risa.
"I got to watch them when I was in the academy, my roommate rented both of them and we binged them," Rayven commented, "Mindy loves Mrs, Doubrfire."
"Who is she?" Tyler asked, he was not as familiar with 21st century movies, like Rayven and her daughter were.
"Mrs, Doubtfire is about a mommy and daddy who get voiced and mommy wants a baby sitter and not the daddy. So daddy gets a guise where he has a special mask made, him gets a grandam gray wig and dresses up as a lady. The mommy don't know it's the daddy and hires him to baby sit, Mommy does find out she's been fooled. But its after the mommy starts to think voicing the daddy was wrong. It's funny." Mindy said. "But iffn you don't think you'd like it we can pick another movie."
"Let's try it out." Tyler suggested. He could see that Mindy liked it, and he was also trying to impress Mindy as well, so it would not hurt, to watch something she wanted to watch.
"Yippie!" Mindy exclaimed.
"Why don't we plan on six, I'll have supper ready," Rayen suggested,
Mindy gave Tyler a hug. "Thank you!"
"We got a hugger huh." Tyler said, as he embraced her hug for a brief moment. "Six sounds perfect."
"She loves to give hugs," Rayven said. "Six it is."
"I can't wait to show you my room and my favorite picture of mommy when she dove last." Mindy said.
"Me either Mindy, I bet you a lovely picture of your mother." Tyler said to Mindy.
"I do, mommy is the bestest cliff diver ever," Mindy said proudly. "I'm gonna be one too."
"Not until I say your ready and you won't dive as high as I do until I say you can. Right now your only diving two feet and only when I'm there." Rayven said firmly.
"Cliff diver, really? Isn't that a little dangerous?" Tyler said, wondering why was Mindy cliff diving?
"It can be very dangerous, I nearly turned professional. But Starfleet won out. I dive when I can. Mindy only dives into a pile of pillows," Rayven said. "I won't let her dive into anything else. She's far too little."
"Pillow huh, sounds dangerous." Tyler said, playfully. He looked to Mindy to get her perspective.
"Mommy won't let me dive into the water, she says I'll get hurt and diving into pillows will teach me to dive," Mindy said. "I'm a big girl."
"What about a swimming pool have you jumped into the shallow in to practice?" Tyler asked, hoping he was not out of line for asking Mindy.
Mindy nodded. "I have and I do what mommy calls a belly flop but I learning."
"We've done some in the holo deck with the saftey settings on a higher setting. She's getting better but we still do like I was taught. That's the pillows," Rayven said.
"Belly flops are fun till you do four or five them then owie on my belly." Tyler said, as he rubbed his belly, thinking how much it hurts.
"I know I get tummy aches from them." Mindy replied. "You should see mommy dive. She's good, dives really high."
"Right now Minds my diving is on hold. My life right now is Starfleet." Rayven said, she looked at Tyler and smiled. "And new friends and seeing what the future holds."
"I will tell you but I don't have a drink, but I like the idea of exploring your friendship with you." He said, not bullying anybody. He wanted to explore more than a friendship.
"I feel the same way," Rayven said, she'd like it to be more. Mindy and her though were a package deal.
"Can I be your friend too?" Mindy asked looking up at Tyler.
"I would not have it any other way Miss Mindy." Tyler said, as he reached out to shake her hands.
Mindy took Tyler's hands and jumped on his lap giving him a hug, "I'm glad, now I got's two friends, You and Paislee."
"The Captain's daughter huh, good choice." Tyler suggested to her. He had yet to meet Paislee, but it was good that Mindy did and her were now friends.
"She has hampsters, there're little. I like them. Mommy said I have my dog. She said Wizzer is my responsibility. I want a hsmpster too." Mindy said.
"You need to take care of your dog for now." Rayven told her.
"You're Mom is right, having a dog is a big responsibility." Tyler pointed out to Mindy.
"Wizzer is my responsibility," Mindy agreed, "I love hum so much,"
"And he'll live a long time if you take good care of him." Rayven told her.
"So should I go get that ice cream?" Tyler asked, as the scene starts to fade away.
