S1, SS3: Much Needed Downtime

Mission:
Season One: Short Treks
Location: Starbase 870
This story takes place between episode 1completion and episode 2 start. I want the Kellan family to have a moment where they talk to their daughter make sure everything is good to go and they have a little vacation on the station.
Location: Starbase 870, Promenade
Adrian was holding Paislee's hamd a0nd with his lovely wife Eliana holding her other hand. The three of them were walking on the station in civilian attire. He just wanted to blend in and have a good time. "Shall we get ice cream first?" Adrian asked, with the warm smile on his face.
"Oh yes!" Paislee's face lit up. Please!" She wanted a cookie dough flurry. This was weird because they always had to eat food first.
Eliana smiled. It was good to see Paislee relaxing. She had been a bit reserved since Eddie's henchmen had tried to kidnap.her.
"Of course after you." Adrian said, and he watched his daughter turned into the room. She was already looking at the options of flavors.
Adrian then looked over to Eliana. "I think she's more resilient than we are!" Adrian said, still pissed off that they almost got his daughter. Eddie needed to pay. Justice had not been served yet.
"She is getting better." Eliana said with a smile. "But she isn't quite back to normal." She paused. "I think she has questions but for some reason is hesitant to ask us."
"I want one scoop of Cookie Dough." Pasilee announced. "And mint chocolate chip for the other." Her eyes went to her Dad who seemed to be the easiest to say yes. "Can I have chocloate on it with some sprinkles." She gave him her best smile. "Please!"
"Those are good choices." Adrian said in a supportive tone. He locked up right behind little Paislee. "I think I'm going to do cheesecake and salted caramel." Adrian said thinking about the flavoring is making his mouth water. And turned around and look to you Eliana wondering what flavor she would order.
"I will be adventurous." Eliana smiled. "Moose tracks and butter pecan." She liked to try new things and she did with the Moose tracks but butter pecan was her favorite and she couldn't resist."
"Butter pecan with moose tracks that is an interesting combination." Adrian said wondering how those two flavors went together at all? Maybe Paislee was just like her mother, because cookie dough and mint didn't really go together either.
"We will see." Eliana said as they ordered. "I'm a chef, we like to try new things. This is how new foods are created." They finally got to the counter and placed their order. Paislee got her typical waffle cone. She took a bite and sighed. "Its really good!"
"So the two ice cream flavors were your doing, huh?" Adrian asked with the playful smile, being more rhetorical. He was trying to tease, but deep down he knew that was a weird combination of flavors.
"She gets her adventurous side from me." Eliana grinned in return.
"Daddy." Paislee said as she ate her ice cream. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure sweetie, ask away." Adrian said with a calm and collected tone to his voice. He is trying to make the most of this moment and he didn't want to add to her anxiety level at all, or even his own.
"How come some people are mean?" Paislee asked, her eyes were serious. "And they want to hurt people?" She had been wondering this since those bad guys had come.
"That's a hard question to answer, hunny. People sometimes get caught up in their own pain they forget they are hurting others." Adrain said, hoping that response would satisfy her inquiry.
"I was scared." Paislee admitted. "Mostly cause I was scared they'd hurt Mommy!" She paused. "I should have known you wouldn't let them."
"I am sorry that got close to you. That must have been scary." Adrian said, trying to acknowledge her feelings. He did not want to over stimulate her experience, and wanted her to talk about it, at her own comfort level.
"I was really scared." Paislee said her voice waa laced with fear. "They sounded angry and mean but Mommy was so brave."
"I was scared." Eliana spoke up. "But I wanted to protect you."
"Who saves Mommy?" Paislee asked him. "I am too little."
"I will, but who's going to save me?" Adrian asked, trying to downplay the seriousness of it because he didn't want her to over stressing.
"You are a super hero, Daddy!" Paislee said with complete adoration. "That's why you have an important job." She took a bite of her ice cream. It was really good.
"I'm not a superhero, I'm just a father trying to protect his daughter and a husband trying to protect his wife. I'm a family man." Adrian said trying to be humble, he didn't see himself as a superhero. He was flattered that his daughter thought that though.
Paislee looked at him and gave him a cheeky grin. "That's cause all the super heros think they aren't special." She swallowed her ice cream. "I know you and mommy both are."
"And sometimes we're just ordinary people have to do extraordinary things in order to protect the ones they love. Trust me honey I have no hero. I'm just a father who loves you very much and will do anything to protect you." Adrian said, he didn't think of himself as a hero because of all the trauma he went through and leaving Starfleet in the first place. It was a cowards move and he knew it. But after watching his best friend and his former first officer died in his hands was more than he could handle.
"Okay." Paislee said. She still thought he was a super hero but he kind of had a sad look on his face and she wanted it to go away. She thrust her ice cream cone at him. "Want to try some, Daddy." She hoped it made him smile.
"Yes." Eliana grinned. "Try some Daddy!" She knew that would not be Adrian's first choice.
"I'm not a big butter pecan fan." Adrian said as he took a small lick. But little Paislee's hand was shaky and he got some on his nose, he looks silly with it on his nose.
Paislee giggled. "You look funny, Daddy!" she held out a napkin to him. "You got some on your nose!"
Eliana was smiling at well. She thought this was a good idea. Paislee seemed more relaxed now that she had talked about her fears some. she had hated seeing how quiet their daughter had been.
"It's the same nose, I've always had." Adrian said with a teasing grin. He had a feeling that he must have ice cream residue on his nose. "What's wrong my nose, did it grow?" He asked playfully.
Paislee giggled some more. "Its growin butter pecan ice cream! You look really really funny!" She saw her mommy was la I going too.
"Are you saying I'm becoming butter pecan?" Adrian smirked with a silly tone. "Well I can assure you I'm not that tasty." He said with his playful banter.
Paislee laughed. "If you were butter pecan you would melt all over the floor. I want you to stay my daddy!"
"That does sound very sticky doesn't it, we can't have you walking all over daddy with sticky shoes. I guess I'll have to stay Daddy." Adrian said with the smirk in his tone.
"I'm glad!" Paislee grinned. "This is fun! We should do this lots and lots."
"But then it wouldn't be special." Eliana said with a smile.
"Oh I think I'm on Paislee's side, this is a lot of fun I think we need to have more memories like this." Adrian said, as he gave his smirk too Paislee.
"See Mommy!" Paislee's whole face lit up. "We can have ice cream before dinner and it doesn't spoil nothing."
Eliana couldn't help but smile at the two of them. "I know when I am outnumbered." she said with a good natured laugh. "But we will see how you two feel when you have to finish your dinner."
"I will." Paislee grinned. "I want a grilled cheese, fries and lots of ketchup."
"How about moderate amount of ketchup?" Adrian counter offered Paislee.
"Okay." Paislee said after a moment. "Enough for my fries and grilled cheese though." She loved to stick her sandwich in the ketchup and eat it.
"What if we get grilled cheese with tomato soup." Eliana suggested. "You like tomato soup?"
Paislee frowned. "Now I don't know which to have!"
"But let's do both and we can just share." Adrian said with a big easy grin on his face, knowing that he would be little Paislee's savior.
"Yes!" Paislee's smile once again crossed her face. "You are the best, Daddy!" She took a bite of her waffle cone, almost done with her ice cream. "What fun stuff are we gonna do while we're here!"
"I was hoping you could tell me." Adrian suggested as a scene starts to fade away.
"I have a list." Paislee began and started telling them all the things she wanted to do. Eliana smiled at her daughter thinking they would not be there long enough to complete the list.
